The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
